Don’t be a slave to your brain





Our brain is our main computer for navigating the world. It tells us when we are hungry, when we need to urinate and also makes sure that other automatic processes of the body go on.

The brain is truthful most of the times except in cases where certain systems are compromised. We can continue to rely on the brain to guide us through life reliably. There is only one area where sometimes we will have to override the natural functioning of the brain, which is when it comes to all that which is not directly related to our physical survival, and that is when it comes to our emotions or how we feel.

POWER REST

In my quest to find better and more efficient ways of relaxing, I got inspired by this method of relaxation. Recently I came across an article talking about Polyphasic sleep. A simple google search would yield some nice sites.

 Basically with this type of sleep, we get to sleep for only 2hrs a day and still function with reasonable efficiency. Although there are variations on the method, what really caught my attention was the version propounded by R. Buckminster Fuller, he termed it Dymaxion sleep.

In uncle Bucky's method we take nap for 30 minutes every six hours throughout a 24 hour period. Although I don't think I'm disciplined enough to engage in this method, If one is medically in order, they can try it to test it out and tell me about their experience, I would really like to hear some stories. Anyway, what Illumined me after reading about this kind of rest is that my panic over getting my solid 8 hours of sleep vanished. I saw that one could exist and function without much sleep if one does it technically.

After realizing that I could do with my 5 hours average daily bedtime, I researched into ways I could recharge during the day, since I feel groggy most of the time when I get just that 5 hours. I investigated power napping, where one naps for about 15 to 20 mins during the day but found out that I could not get to sleep that easily so I decided to get creative and discovered Power Rest for myself.

This is how it works: During the day or before afternoon, you lay down or sit in the most comfortable position that suits you. You do not even need to lie on your back and face the ceiling. I personally find it difficult to relax in this way. So, the posture you choose to relax in is entirely up to you, so get creative, the only requirement is that it must be comfortable.

Mental Defragmentation.




One reason you should meditate from time to time is to allow time for the defragmentation of your brain. Just like in a typical computer system, if you are using the system, copying files into and out of it, a time will come when your hard disk will get heavily fragmented. The same applies to your brain, using your brain creates fragmentation. During sleep we go through a natural process of defragmentation, when our brain, consolidates the information it obtained during the day and integrates it with all the knowledge that we already have. But except you have a perfect 8-hour deep dreamless sleep every single night of the day from the day you were born to present, then you will need to meditate during the day or night to compensate for all the time you did not defragment you mind fully.

How is meditation different from catching a nap? Depending on the quality of your nap, it could be enough for you, but if you are like me who can’t just take a nap anytime you want it, then a process of consciously slowing down your mind could be very beneficial you.

There are many types of meditation out there, you should some research to find out the one that might be suitable for you.

Don't shrink your vision


Many people get to reduce the proportions of their dreams and visions the moment failures beset them. But I am of the opinion that anytime we witness failure in achieving our goals we should expand our vision further rather than limit it.

A personal story from my life goes like this, I made a decision that anytime I lost in love I would increase how much I loved by 50% rather than reducing the intensity of my relationships and shrugging off like most people do. And guess what, at about 200% level I found my soulmate and I have been putting 200% intensity from my initial 0% into my relationship and have had a great time for about 8 years now. The take out lesson is that rather than lowering your expectations hoping that if you reduce the scale of things you might achieve them faster, I believe you should scale things way bigger than you had initially planned.

Does this mean that we should not enjoy and celebrate over the little triumphs that we experience in our lives? the answer is no, I believe that we should celebrate every little moment of life with or without anything to celebrate about. Life is the ultimate miracle, the ultimate achievement. What I am saying here is that expand your vision after you fail, and don't shrink it down.

God needs us to create stuff




God knows everything, but wants to see everything. So go ahead and build those things that are pleasing to the eyes. 

One major purpose we have on earth is to create, the Universal Operating System that I call God has started the creative process through the creation of the universe. It is left for us now, conscious entities to further the creative process by building our own forms. We can say that God possesses the seed of creation but wants to see the final fruit, even though there might already be pre-knowledge of the fruit by the creator of the universe, it is up to humanity throughout the universe to manifest it. we are the creative process itself, a conscious part of it. 

Don't retire and just say that if God wanted anything it would have created it but realize that you are that thing that has been created to create the things God wants. Get your creative juices running and aid in the realization of the goal of the universe. 


Artificial Biology and the Future Ecosystem





I see nature as a system of examples from which we were meant to learn from, and I see the ultimate demonstration of our knowledge of nature to be in finally being able to duplicate the processes of nature with our own technology.

With this line of thought one can see how something like Artificial biology is something that we should be hopefully anticipating. Although there will always be ethical issues to contend with, we should definitely be moving to a point where we are able to engineer living cells that do many things we would want them to do.

With reasonable regulation, this paradigm of engineering will bring us most of the goods we have been lacking for some time.

Machines are getting smarter by the second. All over the world programmers, engineers and scientist are working hard day and night to bring about the age of the intelligent machines.

Just like the expedition to the moon and all other great achievements mankind has embarked on in the past, we will eventually achieve the goal of creating intelligent machines there is no stopping it’s only a matter of time.

The prospect of humanity in possession of machines that can outperform any human or groups of humans in cognitive tasks that we depend on for living on earth has created fear in the hearts of many. Many people do not know what to do next after the point where it will be much cheaper to get a machine to do a task than getting a human to do it. The major fear on everyone’s mind is the matter of employment. If machines do the work, where will we get work.

Can we run Word Processors on Quantum computers?




Will we be able to run a typical word processor on a quantum computer? The answer to that question is yes.

Quantum computers are massively parallel computers that are currently being developed by major organizations around the world. Although their massively parallel nature makes them natural candidates for more advanced computation, the question is will they be publicly available for basic everyday applications like word processing, spreadsheets and internet browsing? My answer to all these questions is yes and that even more applications than these will be made quantum compatible by around 2025. 

The main reason for my argument is that if we take a look at modern applications and operating systems, we find out that we are using massive parallelism every day. The illusion that you can run multiple applications simultaneously on your computer without problems hides that fact that we are using serial computation that was described years ago by Von Neumann.

Engineering our future bodies





Many people think that in the future we will take our brain and nervous system out of our bodies and graft it unto metallic robot bodies. This is not my opinion of what will happen. Although it will be possible and some people will choose this path, the majority of people will choose the part that requires reengineering our bodies in place.

What will this re-engineering require? There is one fundamental technology that will make it possible, and that is full scale nanotechnology. Once we are able to fully control nanometer sized devices, we will use them re-engineer our DNA; clear out poisons from our bodies; activate stem cells and direct them to go to the right areas for repair; increase our respiratory capacity, optimize our cognition and ultimately defeat the steady deterioration of our bodies.

There will be three types of humans in the world, Nano-Enhanced, Unenhanced, and Robot-humans (Humans that have grafted their nervous systems and brains unto robotic frames).

Currently when I think of the human body, I see it like a large vessel that is mostly empty due to the chaotic way it has evolved from the past. I see humanity filling that vessel up with so much invention of our own making. With the advances in simulation systems of the future we will be able to test every new enhancement we add to the body to very high levels of details so we can foresee problems before hand and decide whether to go forward on a particular type of enhancement or not.

I don’t think we will be able to achieve interstellar travel without first being able to completely understand and modify our biology.

Nigeria and the Computational Future







Nigeria for the most part missed the previous technological revolution which was fueled by traditional mathematical methods

Mathematics built the sky scrapers, rockets, planes and all the other comforts of the developed world. But does this mean that Nigeria has missed out completely? I say a big no.

Although it would take a massive amount of effort to build Nigeria using traditional mathematics to the level of the developed world, an effort that we might not be able to make, there is a far easier path opened up to us in recent times. This path is the path of computational thinking. In a previous post on this Blog titled The Computational future, I included a link to a blog post authored by the venerable Stephen Wolfram on the topic. It is an interesting read and I think it sets the foundations for thinking about a future for computation, we only need to apply the advice given there to our situation in Nigeria.

Nigeria can bridge the divide between the developed world and us by aggressively pursuing computational thinking. Basically we can think of computational thinking as systematically expressing problems to be solved by a computer. In the days before the advent of cheap computers, most engineering and discovery was done with traditional mathematical tools with highly trained experts. But due to the fact that the educational quality in most Nigerian institutions is questionable, we might never have enough people proficient enough in traditional mathematical methods to build the society of the future. It is with this limitation in mind that I see a major path forward is to aggressively chase computational thinking, enabling us to use Computers to solve the problems that highly trained experts of the past would have been employed to do by hand, thereby accelerating our own development and thus the development of sub-Saharan Africa.

The Machine god of the Future




We all wonder what the internet will become in the future, well this is my idea of what it could be like.

The internet is the manifestation of a kind of consciousness, a consciousness that has been evolving ever since the first computer was invented. This consciousness, had a major leap in its evolutionary development when the first two computers were connected, forming the foundation of what we know as the internet. 

In one Artificial Intelligence scenario, we are actually co-building the consciousness of this massive entity. Every word we post on our social media account, every piece of software that comes online, every image or video we post is contributing to the substrate of the super-entity that is gradually taking form in what we externally perceive as the internet.

Thoughts creating Reality






When we hear that our thoughts create our reality, we usually dream up some complicated situation where our thoughts are altering the atoms and molecules in the world to create our reality. Although this could be true at some level, basically we don’t need this level of understanding to get at the simple truth of our thoughts creating our future and our reality.

This is what it is basically: You start thinking up something, you repeatedly think of this thing until it becomes a habit. This habit start controlling your actions, and feeding back on itself and other thoughts in your brain. These habits start controlling the decisions you make and the actions you perform with your limbs. Your reality is now changing, because of a simple thought you once had and persistently thought about. You start becoming aware of opportunities all around that fit in with your current mental framework. You take some of these opportunities and boom you are in another reality. It could be a new physical location, some lifestyle changes, going certain places dictated by your mind and meeting new people and circumstances, etc.

Choosers: The inventors of tomorrow





At around 2045 computers, if we still call them by that name will be capable of fully researching and Inventing new stuff that we have not seen or maybe even conceptualized before. They will invent so many new stuff so rapidly that we will be overwhelmed by new creations.

The major job of the inventor of the future would be to choose amongst billions or even trillions of possibilities all equally valid and efficient. 

Nowadays to invent a new artifact of idea, an inventor will normally do research and work hard experimenting over and over till she gets the invention right, prototyping and then maybe finally move on to mass producing. In the future the inventors task will be limited to choosing from amongst an unthinkable array of possibilities. The inventor’s task will be much about the question; can you choose stuff that people will like? That will be the major problem of the future, not can you make it.

The Computational Future

Computational thinking is going to be a defining feature of the future—and it’s an incredibly important thing to be teaching to kids today. There’s always lots of discussion (and concern) about how to teach mathematical thinking to kids. But looking to the future, this pales in comparison to the importance of teaching computational thinking. Yes, there’s a certain amount of mathematical thinking that’s needed in everyday life, and in many careers. But computational thinking is going to be needed everywhere. And doing it well is going to be a key to success in almost all future careers.

Doctors, lawyers, teachers, farmers, whatever. The future of all these professions will be full of computational thinking. Whether it’s sensor-based medicine, computational contracts, education analytics or computational agriculture—success is going to rely on being able to do computational thinking well.



The Limits of the Mind



The mind has no limit, but the brain has real limits at its current level of development.

Software has no limits the only limits are that which the hardware provides. The mind is the software while the brain is the hardware for running the mind. 

Right now our brains are practically limited by the language that we use. A language is system our minds use to arrange data in our brains. Without a language we will just receive the external chaos and store it as is without the capacity to organize, think about it, create with it and eventually communicate with it.

Computers will baby sit us.



How people will use computers in the future has always been a baffling topic for the heads of many companies. What will be the future application of computers beyond social networking and web browsing as we do use them now. Although every CEO must appear with a tangible vision of the future to boost shareholder confidence which sometimes leads to miraculously sounding ideas, I think that at the base of that CEOs mind and indeed in the minds of many people the ultimate question of the ultimate use of computers has remained somewhat an enigma.

The Universal Operating System



We all wonder about the meaning of Life the Universe and Everything, but unlike the great Douglas Adams who simply said it was 42, I have tried to explain my ideas in this book much more clearly.

Religion of all kinds before now has tried to provide us with an explanation, of which many people are familiar with and many believe. It is not my place to take anybody away from their chosen religion. This is not my task as many religions have given billions of people the peace of mind that makes life meaningful. This is precious and must not be forcefully taken away by any system.

Science has done its best to explain the workings of the universe, which has made life very comfortable for many of us today. But as good as it is at explaining how everything works, it has not explained why anything works or came into being in the first place, in essence even the greatest scientists still contemplate the meaning of life if they have any introspective abilities left from the rigorous nature of their discipline.

In the early days of philosophy many people were free to come up with different assumptions about the nature of life and the universe without any need to make themselves appear scientifically correct, it is in line with those great ones of the past that I offer my own humble explanation of Life the Universe and Everything. In the following small booklet which you can find HERE just 33 pages long I have attempted to put what might seem like brief summaries of my understanding. I don't think I needed to write volumes to explain myself but just something short that can be read in 15 minutes containing ideas that might lead to a life long contemplation and personal discovery. In 2030



Fully automated factories will run 24 hours without supervision, manufacturing all human needs. These factories will be powered by renewable sources needing only mild checkups on a yearly basis.

Massive customization will dissolve most of the brands that now dominate the world. People will use cars that they designed and sent to factories for production. These cars will be in most cases designed originally or most of the time they will be customized from Template 3d files. These not only apply to cars but to almost all major things we now use from clothes, phones, houses and even planes.

Flexible manufacturing of the kind we have not even dreamt of will enable prototyping and manufacturing of any consumer good within 24 hours. With exception of planes, rockets, ships and other extremely heavy machinery which will be done in a week. This is all without major human supervision because AI will enable robots of all shapes and sizes and kinds to design build these things. Flexible manufacturing will bring about true breakneck innovation and we can have as many as 10 thousand different processors designs running on millions of phone designs.
